(part 3) Gonzalo –
“Salome” he whispered, afraid of her reaction, Gonzalo chose not to move too close to her, he just waited, waited for her to turn and face him, She did not. As her name began to ripple down his tongue, ready to flow with his breathe, she turned.
Gonzalo was not prepared to see the pain so clearly expressed on her face, nor his reaction to it, until he felt a knot in his throat, for her pain was also his and he felt it deep in his soul. Gonzalo wanted to reach for her and hug her tight and never again let go but, he knew he could not do this, Salomè would never allow him to touch her again, regardless of how evident was the pain of his absence.
“Why are you here?” she asked in a whisper, as Gonzalo began to speak, she cut him off as she yelled with such anger “How could you show up here after what you have done to me? to us?” Salem yelled so loud, from so deep within her that she fell to her knees so spent of energy. Gonzalo ran to help her up, she angrily slapped his hands away and remained on the ground.
Gonzalo lowered his head in defeat and quietly waited, waited for her to begin speaking again, knowing her well enough to know, that she would not. After some time passed, he decided to leave, he couldn’t take the silence any longer nor the pain, so he turned from her so that he may discreetly wipe his tears and walk away from what he know admitted to himself, was the love of his life. Every step he made away from her felt like a knife wound to the heart and so he whispered to the wind “Soon, I will try again” as he walked out of the park towards his car.
“Why, why so much pain again and again? Why can’t I just bury this man and move forward? Can I even move forward?” Salome sat on the bridge juggling these questions for what seemed like an eternity. She sat there, lost with her questions for an hour after Gonzalo left, out of fear of seeing him again, she sat there because she needed to regain her energy. She sat there because there was no other place she’s rather be at the moment.
Finally, she gathered her energy and rose up like the phoenix she was, grabbed her oversized bag, the package, and lit a cigarette as she walked out the park towards her jeep as the words danced in her thoughts, “Tomorrow, I will try to deliver this package, tomorrow.”
Salome awoke to heavy rains and loud thunder, she looked at the clock and threw herself back on the pillows thinking “why am I up at 5:45 in the fucking morning?” then another bolt of thunder, as if to answer her plea, so she walked over to the window to watch the raindrops fall. Gonzalo and she both loved thunderstorms, they both agreed of how Beautiful and Powerful they were.
She loved the rolling sounds of thunder in harmony with the pitter patter of the raindrops on the window pane because to her, they were extremely sentimental as well as sensual. Simply Orgasmic, a perfect follow up after dreaming with Gonzalo, she was at Peace, in this moment.
